Crystal Windows Provide New Outlook For East Orange City Hall
- Over 500 Replacement Windows for Historic New Jersey Building -

FLUSHING, NY, March 29, 2013 – The City Hall building in East Orange, NJ is sporting a new outlook on the world thanks to Crystal Window & Door Systems. Over 500 new energy efficient windows supplied by the national award-winning manufacturer have recently been installed in the historic building. The window replacement project was a major part of the City Hall façade renovation and a key project in East Orange´s overall energy efficiency and conservation program for municipal buildings.

Crystal heavy-duty aluminum Series 5000 double-hung and Series 5100 fixed windows were part of a major façade renovation project at historic East Orange, NJ City Hall to improve energy efficiency and operations.

"Crystal has supplied numerous historic and landmark building projects, but this one presented some interesting challenges, stated Vincent Grieco, Crystal´s New York Metro Regional Sales Manager. "Through the concerted efforts of our sales and engineering personnel, we devised solutions for each of the project´s special needs." Crystal worked closely with the project architect KNTM Architects of East Orange, NJ and a leading commercial window installation firm, Window City, Inc. of Clifton, NJ, to meet the building´s historic and operational requirements related to panning systems, sightline alignment of stacked windows, true divided light replication and accommodation of window A/C units.

The project utilized a total of 560 heavy-duty Crystal Series 5000 double-hung and Series 5100 picture thermal break aluminum windows to replace the building´s steel frame windows. Both the Series 5000 double-hung and the Series 5100 picture windows feature 3-¼" frame depths, 1" dual-pane insulating glass units and AAMA performance ratings of H-HC50 and AW-PG100, respectively. The window frames and accessory pieces all were finished in Crystal´s standard durable AAMA 2604 bronze color VOC-free powder coat paint.

To maintain the building´s historic appearance, custom 4" x 3" pre-set historic panning and ⅝" applied exterior munton grids were utilized. In some instances fixed windows were stacked atop double-hung windows, which required a mullion connection and fabrication of a special frame edge insert on the picture windows to maintain equal sightlines with the mated window. Special interior snap trim and clips were also utilized to install the Crystal windows.

The East Orange City Hall is an imposing 4-story masonry façade icon that presides over the city’s central plaza and train station. Located at 44 City Hall Plaza, the 45,000-ft2 historic building houses the mayor´s office and other local government offices.
