NY-Presbyterian/Queens Employee Health Initiative at Crystal

-Crystal Windows Employees Screened for COPD-

FLUSHING, NY, April 18, 2016 - National manufacturer Crystal Window & Door Systems in conjunction with New York-Presbyterian/Queens Hospital and the Chinese American Nursing Association (CANA) recently launched a special health initiative for its employees. On the morning of April 15, 2016, over 70 Crystal employees volunteered to be test screened free of charge for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The New York-Presbyterian/Queens initiative seeks to promote health in the local community and with employees of area businesses. Coordinated by the Hospital's Community Health Initiative Senior Director, Ms. Min-der Chang, Ph.D., Crystal Windows was the first joint initiative with the private business community by the hospital and will serve as a pilot for other future efforts.

COPD is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the USA. Smoking is the major contributing cause of COPD. "Since smoking is very prevalent amongst Asian immigrants and since Crystal has a high percentage of immigrant workers, I felt this was an important test to offer our employees," said Thomas Chen, Crystal Windows founder and CEO. "The earlier health problems can be identified, the more likely and the sooner they can be resolved. Promoting the health and wellbeing of our family of employees is very important to me and the Crystal management."

Crystal Windows in past years has offered and facilitated many other employee health initiatives, including smoking cessation programs and morning and noontime stretch exercise classes and free fruit for healthy workday snacking.
