Crystal Windows "Star" in New TV Show
- DIY Network's Newark, NJ Home Restoration Includes Crystal Products -
FLUSHING, NY, September 17, 2015 - Crystal Window & Door Systems is once again playing a key role in a TV home restoration show. The new DIY Network show American Rehab: Restoring Victoria utilized Crystal vinyl windows and an aluminum sliding door as part of the renovation of a 110-year old Newark, NJ house. The multi-episode series premiered recently and is airing on the DIY Network during September and October.
This is not the first TV role for the Crystal Windows product line. For the past several years, Crystal has been the exclusive window supplier to the A&E TV Show Flipping Boston. In that series, a variety of Crystal products have been used in the renovation of many residential and light commercial buildings in the greater Boston area. The satisfaction of the producers of that show is what led to Crystal's selection for the new DIY TV American Rehab series.
Over several episodes, American Rehab: Restoring Victoria showcases the efforts of New Jersey teacher and single mother of two Ms. Shalina Joy to restore a large turn-of-the-century home to its former glory. The large home is located on a ⅓-acre lot in the Forest Hills section of Newark's north end. The majestic Mediterranean Revival style home was built in 1905 and features 6 bedrooms, 4-½ bathrooms, a 2-car detached garage, swimming pool, gazebo with hot tub and original wood frame leaded stained glass windows on the front façade. Ms. Joy dubbed her new home "Victoria," hence the name of the TV show.
Crystal's contribution to the restoration project consisted of Crystal's top performing, energy efficient Series 200 vinyl double-hung and 2-lite sliding windows as well as a Series 1240 aluminum sliding door. In keeping with the owner's efforts to retain as many of the building's unique original elements as possible, the front leaded stained glass windows were left in place, while Crystal's products were used to renovate the rear façade.
The Series 200 double-hung (AAMA rated R-PG50) and Series 220 2-lite slider (AAMA rated R-PG35) vinyl windows used for the project feature 3-¼" jamb depth, full welded frames and sashes with ⅞" insulating glass units. Constant force balances on the double-hung and brass rollers with the slider assure years of easy operation. The Crystal Series 200 line is noted for its unique contoured exterior profile, a design item guaranteed to add aesthetic character to all projects, including this historic restoration.
The aluminum Series 1240, AAMA rating LC-PG45, features a 4-9⁄16" frame depth, 1" insulating tempered glass unit, tube sill with concealed drainage, and fibermesh locking screen. Heavy-duty adjustable dual tandem ball bearing rollers provide durable effortless operation.
For enhanced energy efficiency, all the Crystal products were provided with PPG's Solarban 60 low-E glass and argon gas. The windows utilized extruded white vinyl frames and sashes while the aluminum sliding patio door was finished with AAMA 2604 white powder coat paint.
