“Crystal was delighted that Congressman Cartwright could visit our facility in Benton Township and see firsthand the fabrication of our quality window and door products made by our skilled employees,” said Thomas Chen, Chairman.  “Our team was proud to describe the window manufacturing and insulated glass assembly processes and answer his questions.”

Crystal recently added several vinyl product lines to the roster of products fabricated at its northeast Pennsylvania factory, as well as expanded insulated glass unit assembly, including triple-pane units.  The company also invested in several pieces of new equipment to accommodate these additional products and future planned products.

During the visit with Congressman Cartwright, Crystal presented its general plans for further development on the property with additional production and warehouse space.  Crystal’s Pennsylvania facility is currently a 336,000-ft2 building on a 226-acre site adjacent to Highway 81.  Additional warehouse and production space will be needed as the company further integrates operations with Crystal’s New York factory and continues to add product lines to meet future demand.

“I am glad that Congressman Cartwright and his team learned more about Crystal and our plans to continue to grow in northeast Pennsylvania,” said Chen.  “We are proud to be part of the vibrant manufacturing community here in this district, and the understanding and support of elected officials is very important.”

Crystal Expands Operations at Northeast PA Facility

Crystal Window & Door Systems has expanded production operations at its northeast Pennsylvania factory, just north of Scranton, PA.  Several product lines, new equipment, and IGU assembly capabilities have been added there recently, and finished products are shipped directly to customers and job sites.

– Product Lines and Equipment Added to Meet Demand and Reduce Lead Times –

QUEENS, NY, April 23, 2024 – National manufacturer Crystal Window & Door Systems has expanded operations at its Northeast Pennsylvania facility outside of Scranton with the addition of several Crystal products to the lineup of products fabricated there.  The expansion allows the company to keep up with demand and keep lead times short.  Crystal Windows’ new construction Series 300 and Series 400 vinyl windows and the Series 1500 and Series 1600 vinyl sliding patio doors are all now fully assembled at the Scranton factory.  These products join the Series 100 vinyl window line, popular with distributor stock programs, and the Series 1240 and 1280 aluminum patio doors already assembled there.

“Crystal Pennsylvania is continuing to grow despite the current industry challenges,” said Steve Chen, President of Crystal Windows.  “With our 336,000 square foot facility, we’ve capitalized on the space to add product lines and allow other Crystal plants to focus production on new heavy commercial products for regional markets.”

Crystal Pennsylvania (Crystal PA) also has expanded its insulated glass unit (IGU) fabrication capabilities.  The facility now can produce IGUs with several spacer systems, including GED Intercept and Edgetech SuperSpacer.  Production of triple-pane IGUs has also ramped up significantly with increased market demand for greater energy efficiency.  Crystal PA’s automated glass line features highly efficient GED and Billco advanced production equipment which can handle large glass panels. Most of the products fabricated at Crystal PA are shipped directly to job sites and customers throughout the Northeast, MidAtlantic, Southeast, and central MidWest regions, including major developments  in Crystal’s newest markets in Texas, saving shipping costs and time.  Longer distance shipments are handled by Crystal’s logistics partner JB Hunt.  Shipments in the northeast region are usually handled by Crystal’s own truck fleet.

Crystal plans to add more new equipment this year, including vinyl saws, welders, and corner cleaners with associated tooling to handle additional Crystal products.  Building improvements, a new rooftop sign, and enhancements to employee break areas are also in the works.

“The new equipment we have already added here recently has improved our operating efficiency and reduced lead times,” said Chen.  “Further improvements this year will continue the trend, and it will allow us to satisfy demand even more effectively and improve deliveries to our customers.”

– Manufacturer Refreshes Look with Simple, Dynamic Visuals –

QUEENS, NY, April 9, 2024 – National manufacturer Crystal Window & Door Systems has launched a new corporate logo as the first step of a refreshed branding initiative the company is implementing.  The new logo will be phased in over the coming months with all digital, print, presentation, and promotional materials, as well as showroom and trade show displays, delivery truck wraps, and window decals.

The new sophisticated corporate logo is part of an effort updating the corporate brand identity to emphasize the high-end architectural fenestration products the company has introduced in the past few years and its continued company production expansion.  For the logo, Crystal worked with MarketSmiths, a content copywriting and branding agency based locally in Brooklyn, NY.  The new logo design is part of a greater branding initiative which will include a website redesign, currently underway.

“Our new logo design is clean, sharp, elegant, and easily recognized,” said Steven Yu, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  “The Crystal name has been steadily promoted for three decades and is now known throughout the industry and across the country.  Our new logo uses a simplified company name and a contemporary graphically light font, reflecting the name recognition and brand image Crystal has achieved.”

Crystal Canada will remain wholly owned by WINCAN and the two firms will operate with separate management teams.  However, Crystal Canada and Crystal Windows will increasingly work in collaboration on market plans, product design and development, production operations, logistics, and purchasing as well as longer term growth and expansion strategies.  Crystal Canada’s products will continue to be fabricated exclusively in Canada.

Crystal Supplies Southern Towers

QUEENS, NY, November 1, 2023
–The efforts of national manufacturer Crystal Window & Door Systems to supply 5,192 windows and doors for a large Washington, DC-area apartment complex are successfully drawing to closure.  The multi-year window replacement project involved the five 16-story multifamily buildings of Southern Towers Apartments located at 4901 Seminary Road in Alexandria, VA, southwest of the nation’s capital.  Crystal is currently making deliveries to the last two remaining buildings in the complex. Spanning several years, the window replacement project was phased by building, with several window contractors handling each phase of work, but Crystal supplying the entire project.

Crystal Window & Door Systems is nearing the completion of the multi-year window replacement project at Southern Towers Apartments in Alexandria, VA.  Crystal has supplied the five 16-story buildings with over 5,100 new energy-efficient windows and doors.

“It is a testament to Crystal that the owners and managers of Southern Towers Apartments retained us as the window supplier for all five building phases,” said Steven Yu, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Crystal.  “Crystal’s quality products, great service, and reliability continue to be recognized and appreciated in markets across the country.”

A variety of Crystal’s heavy-commercial aluminum windows and doors were used on the project.  By far the most prevalent window used for the Southern Towers project was the Crystal Series 5600 aluminum sliding window.  Fabricated in both 2-lite and 3-lite (with fixed center-lite) versions, the window has a 3-¼” deep frame and is rated AW-PG40 and AW-PG50, respectively.  The Crystal Series 5600 features continuous full-height sash clip lock pull rails, dual stainless steel sash rollers, and optional opening limit stops for safety, security, and ease of operation.  Some of the buildings used large, 161” wide by 59” tall 3-lite versions of the Series 5600 to span wide building openings.

Crystal provided its popular Series 5100 fixed and Series 5600 sliding aluminum windows for expansive views in many openings.

Other buildings used the Crystal Series 5100 aluminum fixed picture window flanked by Series 5600 sliders to span large openings.  The Series 5100 is also a 3-¼” window with an outstanding AW-PG100 rating.  A handful of Crystal’s popular aluminum Series 1450 swing terrace doors were specified for the two early phase buildings.  The Series 1450 terrace door is a 3-¼” in-swing door with an AAMA rating of AW-PG75. Also, the two buildings completed early in the project used some of the now discontinued Crystal heavy-commercial aluminum Series 6200 sliding windows.

All the Crystal windows and doors for the replacement project called for 1” insulated glass units using Vitro Solarban 60 low-E glass and Argon gas filling.  To facilitate the replacement installation, all the Crystal windows were specified with face flange frames, and snap trim and clip accessories.  The latest windows for the project’s final phase were finished in a durable AAMA 2604 custom “silver shadow” powder coat paint.  Windows for earlier project phases used similar shades of light gray.

The Southern Towers Apartments complex is currently owned and operated by the CIM Group based in Los Angeles.  Since the window replacement work began in 2015, three fenestration contracting firms have been awarded various phases of the work: Advanced Window, Inc. (AWI) of Frederick, MD; Caffes-Steele of Beltsville, MD; and most recently Hi-Rise Windows of Bethesda, MD.

The five large buildings of Southern Towers Apartments constructed in 1960 total nearly 2 million square feet with 2,346 residential units.  The buildings include studios, 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom predominantly market rate rental apartments and select affordable units.  The 40.5 acre site also includes landscaped grounds, swimming pools, tennis courts, playgrounds, fitness centers, indoor community spaces, and some commercial businesses.
